UETDRMP018 - Perform rescue from a live low voltage panel

UETDRMP018 - Perform rescue from a live low voltage panel is a nationally recognised unit of competency from the UET Transmission, Distribution and Rail Sector Training Package. It covers the skills and knowledge needed to rescue a person from live low voltage (LV) electrical apparatus, and it's the unit behind what most people call a Low Voltage Rescue (LVR) course.

It applies to electrical industry and electricity supply industry workers, and includes the workplace requirements for inspecting and using live LV panel rescue equipment. It doesn't cover rescues from overhead lines or underground cables.

Who develops the unit

The UET Training Package is maintained by Powering Skills Organisation, the Jobs and Skills Council for the energy, gas and renewables industries. The Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) regulates the registered training organisations (RTOs) that deliver it.

The codes it replaces

UETDRMP018 was released in August 2025. It replaces, and is equivalent to, UETDRMP007. If your employer or site asks for any of the older codes below, UETDRMP018 is the current version.

Unit code Status
UETDRMP018 Current, released August 2025
UETDRMP007 Superseded by UETDRMP018 (equivalent)
UETDRRF004 Superseded by UETDRMP007
UETTDRRF06 Superseded by UETDRRF004

Why CPR always comes with it

UETDRMP018 has a pre-requisite unit: HLTAID009 - Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation. A rescue doesn't end when the casualty is clear of the panel, so the unit assumes you can also resuscitate them. That's why LVR is almost always delivered as a combined LVR & CPR course, and why both appear on your Statement of Attainment.

What the unit covers

The unit has three elements:

  • Prepare to perform rescue procedures from a live LV panel: confirm the workplace requirements for the rescue, identify the electricity isolation point, and obtain and inspect the rescue equipment and PPE.
  • Carry out a rescue from a live LV panel: assess the situation, activate the rescue response and remove the casualty from the live panel.
  • Complete the LV panel rescue procedure: assess the casualty, secure the incident site and control entry, and report the incident.

To be assessed as competent, you must show you can identify hazards and apply control measures, identify the isolation point, confirm the voltage and safe approach distance, inspect the rescue equipment, fit rescue PPE and perform a rescue from a live LV panel. You'll also need to know the safety observer's role and responsibilities, how to release a casualty from electrical contact and move them to a safe location, and the reporting requirements.

The assessment must take place in a real workplace situation or in simulated conditions that replicate the workplace, using rescue equipment and PPE currently used in industry. That's why it can't be completed online. Read more in Can you do LVR online?

Why complete this unit of competency

Queensland's Electrical Safety Regulation 2026 requires businesses to make sure workers who perform, or help perform, electrical work are competent in rescue and resuscitation. A safety observer for work on or near energised equipment must have been assessed as competent in rescue and resuscitation within the previous 12 months. An LVR & CPR course is how electricians, apprentices and safety observers meet those requirements.

How often to renew

The unit itself doesn't expire, but rescue and resuscitation competency is treated as current for 12 months. Most employers and principal contractors ask for LVR & CPR that's less than a year old. Read more about LVR & CPR renewal in Queensland.

Completing the course with Tradie Training

Tradie Training (RTO number 45555) delivers UETDRMP018 and HLTAID009 together in our Low Voltage Rescue & CPR course. It takes 2.5 hours, all face-to-face with no online study beforehand, and costs $119 for both units. You'll practise the rescue with a low voltage rescue kit, and your Statement of Attainment is emailed to you straight after the course.

Book an LVR & CPR course in Brisbane or an LVR & CPR course on the Gold Coast.

Training pre-requisites

You don't need to hold HLTAID009 before you book, because our course includes it. To complete the CPR assessment, you'll need to be able to kneel on the floor and perform 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on a manikin.

As with any Vocational Education and Training (VET) course, you need a Unique Student Identifier (USI) to enrol. USIs can be created for free using the Government USI portal.
