How to replace a lost White Card in Queensland

Written by Ryan Senn ·

If your Queensland White Card has been lost, stolen or destroyed, you don’t need to redo the course. As long as you’re still eligible to work in construction, you can apply for a replacement card.

Here’s who can replace your card, what you’ll need and what to do if your training provider no longer exists.

Can I get a replacement White Card?

Yes. Section 321 of the Queensland Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011 lets a card holder apply for a replacement if their White Card is lost, stolen or destroyed. The application must:

  • include a declaration about the circumstances in which the card was lost, stolen or destroyed, and
  • be accompanied by the replacement fee.

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) can also require a statement that you’ve carried out construction work in the last 2 years. That’s because of the 2-year rule: if you completed your training more than 2 years ago and haven’t done any construction work since, a replacement won’t help, and you’ll need to complete the course again. Read more about whether a White Card expires.

Who replaces Queensland White Cards?

In Queensland, White Cards are issued by registered training organisations (RTOs) that have an agreement with the regulator. Under section 325 of the regulation, those RTOs can also issue replacement cards, and a card they issue is treated as if the regulator issued it.

That means you normally go back to the RTO that delivered your original training.

If you trained with Tradie Training

You can order your replacement White Card online. It costs $39, and the process takes a few minutes:

  1. Answer a few questions to confirm you’re eligible.
  2. Enter your details and the postal address for your new card.
  3. Sign a short declaration describing how your card was lost, stolen or destroyed. If you completed your White Card training more than 2 years ago, also include a statement of your construction work experience for the past 2 years.
  4. Pay the replacement fee by card. You’ll receive a confirmation email with your invoice, and your replacement card is posted to you.

If your RTO has closed

Training providers come and go. If you did your White Card course with another Queensland RTO that is no longer in business, Tradie Training can still issue a replacement, as long as you can provide your Statement of Attainment for one of the following units:

  • CPCWHS1001 - Prepare to work safely in the construction industry
  • CPCCWHS1001 - Prepare to work safely in the construction industry
  • CPCCOHS1001A - Work safely in the construction industry (the previous Queensland course)

If your original RTO is still operating, contact them for the replacement.

If you can’t find your Statement of Attainment

Your Statement of Attainment is a separate document to the White Card. If you’ve lost it, contact the RTO that delivered your training, as only they can reissue it. If you completed your training after 2015, your results may also be in your USI transcript, which you can download for free.

If you can’t find any record of your training, you’ll need to complete the White Card course again.

Can I keep working while I wait?

Normally, a worker carrying out construction work must keep their White Card available for inspection. But the regulation makes an exception: if your card has been lost, stolen or destroyed and you’ve applied for a replacement but haven’t received it yet, that requirement doesn’t apply to you.

Keep your confirmation email as evidence that you’ve applied.

Lost a Blue Card?

Queensland Blue Cards were the construction induction cards issued before the White Card. Blue Cards are no longer issued, and we can’t replace a lost Blue Card with a White Card. If you’ve lost an old Blue Card, you’ll need to complete a current White Card course.

Replacing a White Card from another state

Replacement cards are issued in the state or territory where your original card was issued. Tradie Training can only replace Queensland White Cards. For other states:

A valid White Card from any state can be used in Queensland, so you only need to replace it in the state that issued it. See using your White Card in other states.

Need a new White Card instead?

If you’re not eligible for a replacement, our White Card course takes 4.5 hours, costs $99 and you’ll leave with your new White Card on the day.
